Back to School Pest Control: How to Keep Bugs Out of Your Home

The back to school season is a time when families are getting back into the routine of things. This includes preparing for homework, packing lunches, and - of course - dealing with pesky bugs that might try to make their way into your home. It's important to take steps to pest-proof your home before the school year starts, so that you can enjoy a bug-free environment all year long! In this blog post, we will discuss some easy tips for preventing bugs from invading your home this fall.

1. CLEAN OUT YOUR KIDS BACKPACK

Backpacks are the perfect place for unwanted pests to linger - especially if a bag is left outside during soccer practice or kept in a locker on ground level. Make sure to cleanse backpacks thoroughly - some backpacks can even go into the wash. Spot clean with soap and water at least once a month for upkeep and cleanliness.

2. KEEP LUNCH BOXES TIDY & CLEAN

A dirty lunch box may seem like an innocent source, but you'll be surprised at what can live in there. Be sure to remove any pest findings and wash the lunchbox with hot water and soap every night. In addition to insects like ants and fruit flies, dirty lunchboxes are also breeding grounds for mold - yuck!

3. CHANGE BEDDING OUT REGULARLY

Bedding is one of the most common sources of bugs in the home. Be sure to change your child's bedding out on a regular basis, and wash it with hot water and soap at least once a week. Inspect the bedding for any signs of pests as well as your child for bites.

4. CHECK FOR LICE REGULARLY

Lice are a common problem in schools, and they can easily be transferred to your child and brought home. Be sure to check your child's head for lice on a regular basis. Hygiene is key - and ensuring your child(ren) don't share hats, brushes, or ear muffs.

By following these simple tips, you can help to keep your home pest-free this back to school season! If you have any concerns or questions, be sure to consult with a professional. Pest control is nothing to mess around with - it's important to ensure the safety of your family and your home.
